Faith Beyond Feelings

By Gerrard & Schonshary Laidler

Faith is often misunderstood as a life free from difficulty, disappointment, or uncertainty. In reality, faith is the decision to remain anchored in God even when life becomes unpredictable.

One of the greatest challenges believers face is trusting God in seasons that do not immediately make sense. There are moments when prayers seem unanswered, opportunities disappear, relationships change, and carefully constructed plans unfold differently than expected. During those seasons, many people begin questioning whether God is still present.

Yet some of the most transformative seasons of life are born from uncertainty. Faith matures when comfort is removed.

It is easy to trust God when everything is progressing smoothly. It is far more difficult to trust Him when doors close unexpectedly or when life moves in a direction you did not anticipate. However, difficult seasons often reveal areas where God is developing wisdom, patience, discernment, and spiritual endurance.

Growth rarely occurs in environments where nothing is being challenged.

One of the most powerful lessons faith teaches is surrender. Human nature constantly seeks control. We want immediate answers, visible direction, and reassurance about the future. God, however, often requires trust before clarity.

There is a profound difference between knowing about God and genuinely depending upon Him. Dependence changes perspective. It teaches humility. It strengthens prayer. It deepens gratitude. It shifts focus away from temporary circumstances and redirects attention toward eternal purpose.

Faith also requires guarding your mind carefully. Fear, disappointment, and comparison have the ability to distort perspective if left unchecked. Constantly measuring your journey against someone else's can cause unnecessary frustration and distract you from what God is personally building within your life.

Every assignment is different. Every process is different. Every timeline is different. What appears delayed may actually be preparation.

Sometimes God is developing character before elevation. Wisdom before influence. Stability before responsibility. Many people desire public blessings while overlooking the private refinement necessary to sustain them.

Faith means continuing forward without allowing temporary emotions to dictate permanent decisions. It means believing God remains intentional even when life feels inconvenient. It means maintaining integrity during difficult seasons.

There is also strength in understanding that God's presence is not determined by emotional feelings alone. Some seasons feel spiritually overwhelming while others feel unusually quiet. Yet silence does not mean absence.

Many times, God accomplishes His greatest work beneath the surface where human eyes cannot immediately recognize it.

As I continue growing spiritually, I have learned that faith is not built merely through miracles. It is also built through consistency. Through prayer when you feel exhausted. Through obedience when compromise appears easier. Through trusting God enough to remain disciplined while waiting for direction.

Faith produces stability. It allows people to remain grounded without becoming consumed by panic every time life changes unexpectedly. It creates peace that circumstances cannot easily dismantle.

The older I become, the more I understand that faith is not about living a flawless life. It is about remaining connected to God while navigating an imperfect one.

And sometimes the greatest evidence of faith is continuing to trust God while He is still writing the story.
